A Banks Peninsula company has won New Zealand's top olive oil award for the second year running.
Robinsons Bay Olives from Akaroa took the best in show award as well as best in class in the commercial medium blend class at the New Zealand Extra Virgin Olive Awards, where international judges commented on the high quality of the oils produced here.
Robinsons Bay, owned by Chris and Annette Moore, is a medium sized grove of nearly 1000 trees. It also won the supreme award last year, and has been a consistent medal winner at previous awards.
Another consistent medal winner, Juno Olive Grove from Wairarapa, won the best in boutique category.
Wairarapa olive oil producers gained the biggest haul of medals at this year's awards: 22, but all growing regions were represented in the medal count.
