A driver whose tour bus rolled down a bank on the West Coast, killing a British tourist, has pleaded guilty to careless driving charges.

Alistair Graham Shaw, 37, pleaded guilty to two charges relating to the incident at the Auckland District Court on Tuesday.

A 62-year-old British tourist died when the bus plunged 20 metres down a bank south of Charleston in February 2008. Some of the 17 other passengers were injured.

Alistair Shaw pleaded guilty to careless driving causing death and careless driving causing injury. He will be sentenced in August.

After the crash, two separate investigations were launched, one by the police and the other by the Transport Agency, after questions were raised about the condition of the road.
