NZ Steel's move to electric furnace deemed a "huge step"

A huge step towards decarbonizing the economy and ending coal use. 

That's how Coal Action Network Aotearoa is describing the government's move to help NZ Steel introduce a new electric arc furnace.

The Glenbrook steel mill currently burns about 800,000 tonnes of coal each year, but the new furnace will see that almost halved.
