National surgical mesh registry off? Minister responds

09:44 am on 14 June 2019

Associate Health Minister Julie Anne Genter responds to frustration among surgical mesh campaigners at the apparent U-turn over the establishment of a National Register to track incidents.

This week the Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield told parliament's health select committee that a register to track patients who have been harmed by mesh implants would be too expensive and take too much time.

Instead, District Health Boards have been directed to keep their own registers, which could be collated later.
