Battle to control Te Mata Peak fire

Fire crews are battling a large blaze on Te Mata Peak in Hawke's Bay.

Fire and Emergency said the fire had been burning since 8pm this evening.

A blaze measuring 200m by 100m is stretching across the western side of the peak, a spokesperson said.

Six fire engines and a tanker are at the scene, and helicopters are on standby.

The cause of the fire isn't yet known.
