Mr Sogavare announced this during his weekly national address, putting an end to speculation about the Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi's visit to Honiara and the region.

Mr Wang is expected to lead a large delegation from Beijing and the two countries are likely to sign a host of new agreements, including the controversial security pact.

Mr Sogavare said Solomon Islands welcomes visits from all its key development partners.

Meanwhile, Mr Sogavare also confirmed they are anticipating a visit by Aotearoa New Zealand government officials sometime in June or July.
