Christchurch City Council is to reinstate an alcohol ban around Canterbury University to coincide with the return of students for the new term.
The temporary ban for Upper Riccarton and Ilam will come into effect on 1 February.
Council regulation and consents committee chairman David East said there was a temporary ban in the second half of last year, which ended in December as students left for the year.
He said it makes sense to time the new temporary ban to coincide with the return of tertiary students and orientation activities.
The ban prohibits drinking in public places and the carrying of open bottles or cans containing alcohol.
