A Waipawa farm has been ordered to pay $130,000 in fines and reparations after a worker died when they were crushed under a quad bike.
The farm worker was riding the bike on sloping terrain while using a spray tank in December 2015.
A Hastings District Court judge found Kiloran Land Company Limited failed to put a good risk management system in place, and that the spray tank was incorrectly mounted.
WorkSafe New Zealand said it was one of 19 deaths of farm workers last year.
Its chief inspector, Keith Stewart, said many of the deaths involved routine tasks being done from the vehicles.
