The consultations were organised by the new administration of Emmanuel Macron aimed at canvassing issues of concern to French citizens living overseas.

The findings are expected to be published in May and be the basis for policies and projects.

Ms Girardin has told the visiting French Polynesian president Edouard Fritch that she will be in Tahiti in the third week of January.

He told her that next week he will hold a session of the consultation series about greater Papeete.

Mr Fritch has also confirmed that the territorial elections will be held on April 22, with the second round on May 6.
