Papua New Guinea's National Court has rejected an application by the police commissioner, Tom Kulunga, to stop his sentencing this week.

Mr Kulunga has been convicted on contempt of court charges for failing to reinstate Geoffrey Vaki to his position as Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations after he was suspended on cabinet orders in 2012.

The newspaper, The National, reports that Mr Kulunga will be sentenced on Friday.
