Six young people have been arrested in Auckland after stealing a car and crashing into three others in central Auckland.
Officers were called to a crash at the intersection of Great North Road and Ponsonby Road about 6.45pm on Wednesday.
The car, allegedly stolen earlier in Parnell, had been seen speeding through the intersection before crashing into a vehicle waiting at the traffic lights.
Inspector Grant Tetzlaff said the car also crashed into two other stationary vehicles before coming to a halt. T
he occupants then fled on foot towards Karangahape Road.
No one was injured, but the vehicles involved were badly damaged.
Two 16-year-olds, one of whom was the driver, were arrested.
They will appear in the Auckland Youth Court on Thursday, and police will be opposing bail for the driver.
The other four youths, aged between 11 and 17, have been referred to Youth Aid.
Inspector Tetzlaff said police were astounded.
"This was a fast-moving incident, which could have ended in many different scenarios."
He hoped the quick arrests would reassure the community that such actions would not be tolerated.
