One dead after driving off State Highway One north of Dunedin

A person has died after driving off State Highway One and going down a bank north of Dunedin.

Emergency services were called to the Northern Motorway south of Waitati shortly after 3.30am on Saturday, where the sole occupant of the car was found dead.

The road remained blocked with detours in place while a scene examination continued, police said.
