When Vanuatu's Prime Minister Charlot Salwai visited New Zealand last week one of his stops was Auckland University's Library.

Mr Salwai was in New Zealand his first state visit here and met with his New Zealand counterpart John Key. among others.

But he was also interested in seeing the British records of its time as one of Vanuatu's colonial powers which are held in Auckland University Library's Special Collections.

The records are within the archives of Britain's Western Pacific High Commission and the Special Collections manager Stephen Innes told Don Wiseman how the university acquired them.
