Creating business opportunities for youth is being highlighted in this year's

National Youth Week in Samoa.

The theme for this year is 'Empowering Youth in the Informal Sector for Sustainable Community Development'.

An assistant chief executive in the Ministry of Women, Sports and Community Development, Seletuta Visesio, says the theme fits with the National Youth Policy which includes a focus on opportunities for young people in the informal sector.

Ms Visesio says youth make up more than fifty per cent of Samoa's population, and the majority is in the informal sector.

She says youth should be given as much support as possible; whether it be technically or financially.
