A four-year-old boy has died after he was found in water at the back of a Southland property.

Police started searching for the boy after receiving reports of a missing child near Brydone late on Wednesday afternoon.
Attempts to revive the boy were unsuccessful.
Police said his death had been referred to the Coroner and the family had asked for privacy.
Brydone is located between Gore and Invercargill.
