The Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal made the ruling against Glen Twentyman, who has been working at the Men's High Street Clinic in central Auckland.

He admitted prescribing things like growth hormones and steroids without proper assessment or follow up.

The clinic's patients were almost exclusively men over 45, whose problems included low libido and erectile dysfunction.

The Tribunal said Dr Twentyman gave out the drugs simply at the request of patients, when there could have been serious health consequences.

Dr Twentyman was ordered to to pay $144,000 in fines and costs and was suspended for nine months.
