Retail spending on the rise

07:12 am on 8 April 2013

Latest retail trade numbers in Australia show spending in February rose at its fastest pace in more than three years.

Radio New Zealand's Sydney correspondent reports that a jump of 1.3% in turnover was four times what the market expected and followed a similar surge in January.

At the same time, a gauge of activity in the services sector has risen at its fastest pace in 14 months and building approvals have shown a strong rebound.
