For the first time in New Zealand, Moana will be part of a Disney on Ice show, with one show per city including a performance in te reo Māori.
The new Disney on Ice show, Disney On Ice celebrates Mickey and Friends, is coming to New Zealand in August with shows in Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch.
The hugely popular film Moana will form part of the show, and one performance at each tour stop will see the segment presented in te reo Māori.
The show’s producer says they wanted to present the Moana segment in Māori because of the film's “cultural significance in the Pacific”, and because the character Moana is so beloved here.
A te reo Māori version of the Moana film was released in 2017.
Disney On Ice celebrates Mickey and Friends dates:
- Auckland, August 2nd – 4th | Spark Arena
- Hamilton, August 8th – 11th | Claudelands Arena
- Christchurch, August 17th – 18th | Horncastle Arena
Tickets go on sale April 1st at 9am.
The new show features Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy travelling through the various Disney worlds and “unforgettable Disney moments”, trying to decide which is their favourite memory.
The show will include segments from the films Moana, Frozen, Fantasia and more.
