Gale wind warning for the main island of Tutuila in American Samoa has been canceled as Tropical Cyclone Garry continues to slowly move towards the Manu'a island group, but high surf warning for all shores of the territory remains in effect.
The meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pago Pago, Mase Akapo Akapo Junior, says he expects Garry to be 32 kilometres north of the Manu'a islands around 6 this morning.
Tutuila is now under a wind advisory while Manua is still under a storm warning.
Forecasters cautioned that American Samoa is still not fully out of the clear, and urged residents of Tutuila to still remain cautious until the all clear signal is given and the storm has moved further away from the Manu'a island group.
Meanwhile, all public schools are cancelled today but teachers and administrators are directed to report to work to prepare their classrooms for school tomorrow.
