Familton re-elected as Waitaki mayor

Waitaki Mayor Alex Familton has been re-elected for a second term in local body elections on Saturday.

Mr Familton received 4545 votes based on 98% of votes counted. His nearest rival, Gary Kircher, recorded 3362 votes.

There are three new councillors from the Oamaru ward: Sally Hope, Hugh Perkins and Gary Young.

The highest polling candidate in the Oamaru ward was Jim Hopkins.

New mayors for Central Otago, Clutha

Tony Lepper has been voted in as the new mayor for the Central Otago district.

Mr Lepper polled 2959 votes, ousting incumbent Malcolm Macpherson, who came third behind Jeff Hill.

Dr Macpherson was hoping to be elected mayor for fourth time.

Meanwhile, Clutha District incumbent mayor Juno Hayes has been voted out of office.

Ms Hayes was seeking a fifth consecutive term but was narrowly beaten by Balclutha retailer Bryan Cadogan by 354 votes.
