Dengue statistics in Fiji high but no deaths reported

09:14 am on 16 January 2014

A total of 904 cases have tested positive for the Dengue 3 strain between 30th October last year and yesterday.

Fiji Village reports the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health Dr Metuisela Tuicakau says no severe dengue cases or deaths were reported.

The Central Division is still reporting the highest number of cases with 766, the Western Division 101 with the Northern Division now reporting 37 cases.

To try and combat the Dengue-carrying mosquitoes the Health Unit says it has a monitoring team on the ground to assess mosquito breeding places and carry out larvae sampling.

Similar clean up campaigns are also being organised for the West and the North.

The Health Ministry is continuing to warn the public to remove mosquito-breeding sources as much as possible.
