Guam has marked a milestone with its first woman governor, Lourdes Leon Guerrero, having taken the oath of office.
The Pacific Daily News reports the 15-member 35th Legislature, which has record-breaking 10 women senators, was also being sworn in along with other elected officials such as the new attorney general.
A Sunday church service kicked off the four-part gubernatorial inaugural events, estimated to cost $US250,000.
Leon Guerrero, 68, is the first Democrat to become governor in 16 years after her two Republican predecessors each had two terms.
Her Lieutenant Governor is Joshua Tenorio.
