More boat people processed on Nauru advised of results of their claims for asylum

Another 370 Afghan asylum seekers being processed on Nauru have been refused refugee status, with only 14 successful applicants.

The decision takes the total number of Afghan asylum seekers found to be refugees to 54, with 697 rejections.

The Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs says 10 asylum seekers on Nauru are still waiting for a decision on their claims for refugee status.

Of the total 1,141 asylum seekers being processed on Nauru, 268 were found to be refugees and another 873 were denied the status.

Meanwhile, on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea, 305 asylum seekers have received a decision on their claims with 30 still awaiting a decision.
