The Society for the Protection of Animals is investigating the sale of a domestic cat skin on Trade Me.
"We will investigate this case to determine whether there has been a breach of the Animal Welfare Act," SPCA national president Bob Kerridge said.
AAP reports the skin sold for $70 on 30 May. Stray cats are protected under the Animal Welfare Act.
The seller described the skin as a "beautifully marked wild cat skin, caught eight months ago eating my chickens, pheasants and who knows what else!".
AAP reports a stuffed roadkill cat sold for nearly $1000 in another Trade Me auction earlier this year.
