The Australian army is to help against the bushfires in Victoria.

After speaking to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, State Premier John Brumby said the army will provide logistics, bulldozers and fuel and other support.

The confirmed death toll so far is 66. More deaths are expected in the worst bushfires since Ash Wednesday in 1983, when 75 people died.
