New Zealand tennis player Marina Erakovic scored a comfortable win in her first round singles match at the Commonwealth Games, beating a Bahamas opponent 6-1, 6-0.

Erakovic, seeded eighth, will meet a player from Uganda in the second round.

In the first round of the mixed doubles, Erakovic and Rubin Statham were beaten by an English pair.

Statham was to play his first round singles match on Tuesday against a player from Barbados.
