Schools must provide audit report - Fiji education minister

17:16 pm on 15 November 2013

The Fiji Education Minister says all schools must undertake an audit of their spending before they will receive funds from the government.

Last week, the government announced in its 2014 budget that it would fund free education for all primary and secondary school students.

Filipe Bole has told FBC News that the ministry requires schools' audited statements for this year to show how they have used grants, and plan how they will use the money next year.

He says if schools cannot provide an audit statement, they will need a certified financial report.

He says the government wants to ensure next year's grants are properly utilised.
