Capuchin monkey continues to elude keepers

20:14 pm on 12 August 2009

A capuchin monkey that escaped from its Christchurch reserve has been located but is managing to elude keepers.

Minty escaped from the Willowbank Wildlife Reserve at the weekend after swimming across a moat and scaling an electric fence.

The little brown monkey did not go far and is hiding in trees nearby.

Attempts to coax her down have been fruitless and park manager Jeremy Maguire says the next step will be to lay a trap on Wednesday night.

Mr Maguire says staff who have seen the monkey in the past day report she seems unharmed.

He says keepers are being careful to not stress Minty as they attempt to catch her, but she is ignoring them.
