Sport: China to help develop Vanuatu athletes

12:59 pm on 4 April 2016

China's new ambassador to Vanuatu says China will help develop the country's athletes ahead of next year's Pacific Mini Games.

Liu Quan says he can help make arrangements to send Vanuatu's best athletes to China for training ahead of the games.

China is funding the construction of a new sports complex in Port Vila that will host the bulk of competition at next year's Pacific Mini Games.

Earlier this year, the CEO of the 2017 Mini Games, Joe Carlo, confirmed the start date for the Games had been pushed back three months until December after Cyclone Pam caused major disruptions to the construction of venues.

At the 2013 Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna, Vanuatu won two gold medals and six bronze.
