Naomi McRae was a well-loved and respected police officer, a runner and horse rider. She died on Saturday following a serious crash on 13 February.
McRae was off duty at the time of the crash on Linwood Road in Karaka, south of Auckland.
Counties Manukau District Commander Superintendent Jill Rogers said: "Naomi's tragic passing has deeply affected a number of staff and friends in the Police whānau ... Most recently she was working in our family harm team - Whāngaia Ngā Pā Harakeke.
"She worked with a number of vulnerable victims toward reducing the impact of family harm."
McRae graduated Police College in 2014 as part of Wing 288 and served in Counties Manukau since then.
At work, colleagues across the district held her in regard.
Outside work, she was preparing to run the Boston Marathon.
"Naomi had run a number of marathons in the past, including running the New York Marathon for charity," Rogers said.
Rogers said police had been in contact with McRae's family and were supporting them.
Her family asked for privacy.
A police investigation continues.
