Matt Howell has been appointed New Zealand's High Commissioner to Tuvalu.
Mr Howell, who has a background in international development, is also the New Zealand director of the Tuvalu Trust Fund.
He previously served at the New Zealand High Commission in Solomon Islands.
Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters said Mr Howell would play a critical role in taking forward the 2019 New Zealand-Tuvalu Statement of Partnership, which covers areas like climate change, workforce development and regional security.
Mr Howell will be based in Wellington.
