Fiji's education minister has confirrmed none of the 787 retiree teachers will be re-hired.
Filipe Bole says the ministry has the required number of teachers to fill in the vacancies created by the government's new civil service retirement age of 55, which came into effect on April the 30th.
Fiji live quotes him as saying there will be no need for the re-engagement of any of the teachers.
Mr Bole says the Ministry has taken the opportunity to reduce the number of its human resource, to comply with the 10 per cent reduction in the size of the civil service without compromising the quality of education.
He says the Ministry has a total of 439 unemployed graduates who are ready to be recruited into the teaching force.
