A two-year-old has died after a motorbike crashed into a group of five pedestrians in Palmerston North last night.
Police were called to the serious crash on Pioneer Highway just after 7pm.
They said the motorcyclist was on a shared walking and cycling track when they hit the group.
Four ambulances attended and transferred the injured to Palmerston North Hospital.
Two people are still being treated.
Police said the motorcyclist was among the injured but was not the most critical.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Palmerston North mayor Grant Smith said people should be safe on walkways.
He said it was an unusual tragedy and is offering his condolences to the child's family.
