The education ministry in French Polynesia plans to extend bilingual teaching to seven more schools.
The concept is to teach half the courses in French and half the courses in the local Polynesian language.
The schools earmarked for the change are from Rurutu in the south to Nuku Hiva in the north.
A total of more than 730 students will benefit from bilingual instruction.
France pays for French Polynesia's teachers and by law, French Polynesia's only official language is French.
