Three people have been flown to hospital, one in a critical condition, after a crash in Bay of Plenty sent one car down a bank.
Emergency services were called to the crash, at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Omokoroa Road in Whakamarama, about 4.50pm.
Police said the road would be closed for a couple of hours and asked motorists to avoid the area.
They said the crash involved two cars and one had gone down a bank.
St John Ambulance said a helicopter and three ambulances went to the scene.
One person was in a critical condition, another had serious injuries, and one was moderately injured.
They said all three were now at Waikato and Tauranga Hospitals.
