Men in Fiji court for alledged passport scam

15:58 pm on 14 November 2016

Two men have appeared in a Fiji court charged with the illegal issuing of Fiji passports to Chinese nationals.

The manager of the immigration department's passports division, Kalisi Sakiusa, is charged with conspiracy to influence public officials, abuse of office, and using a false document to deceive his principal.

A Chinese national with a Fiji passport, Ma Li, is charged in relation to conspiracy to influence public officials.

The Fiji Sun reports that the two men conspired in May to procure two passports for two Chinese nationals, which involved Mr Sakiusa providing false Fiji citizenship certificates.

The pair were granted bail and will re-appear in court on November 25.
