A retired Wellington accountant has had his request to bring a private prosecution against Auckland Mayor Len Brown rejected by the Solicitor-General.

Graeme McCready wanted to prosecute Mr Brown on charges of corruption and bribery arising from matters which were revealed during an investigation into his affair with Bevan Chuang.
Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson needed to give approval for the court action to go ahead, and he asked Solicitor-General Michael Heron to investigate Mr McCready's claims.
In a letter sent to the parties on Friday Mr Heron says he has taken into account submissions from both Mr McCready and Mr Brown's lawyer.
He says the evidential grounds for prosecuting Mr Brown have not been met.
