Southern District Police is carrying out a road policing operation across the district this weekend.

People in 30 vehicles stopped during a three-day roading operation in Milton were not wearing their seatbelts.

Southern District road policing manager Inspector Amelia Steel said the latest operation targeted drivers not wearing sealtbelts, driving distracted, or impaired by alcohol, drugs or fatigue, and driving too fast for the conditions.

"Everyone has a part to play when you're out driving," Steel said.

"Following simple road rules and safe driving habits can literally save your life."

Alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in about 20 percent of all fatal crashes.

"Road safety is something we all have to take responsibility for, so watch your speed and your following distances, stay focused - put your phone out of reach - wear your seatbelt, and always drive sober and alert," she said.
