The fire threatened the nearby suburb of Ravensbourne, and four homes were evacuated as a precaution.

A small number of rural fire crews have remained on the scene overnight to keep an eye on the hot spots and patrol the area.

The police closed the Signal Hill lookout for the night, as well as some roads near the fire scene including much of Butts Road and Logan Park Drive.

They will reassess the road closures this morning.
