Abseiling teen injured after 8m fall

A teenager is in a stable condition in hospital after he fell eight metres while abseiling near Te Awamutu.

Callum Graham, 17, was abseiling near Castle Rock with fellow students from Auckland's Kristin School on Thursday when he fell, landing on another student.

He suffered a spinal injury and is in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The 17-year-old student he landed on has a sprained ankle.

Principal Ted Berry says the group was under close supervision when the accident occured and the school will carry out a full investigation.
