A man has died after his car crashed into a river at a camp ground in Blenheim.
Police said they were called to the scene just before 1am this morning.
The serious crash unit is investigating and the death has been referred to the coroner.
The death was the third during the Christmas holiday period, with a crash on the Wellington motorway near Johnsonville that killed a motorcyclist at 3am this morning taking the toll to four.
So far this year, 374 people have died on New Zealand's roads, six fewer than the road toll for 2017.
Among them is the Wellington crash, one person who died in Whanganui on Christmas Day and one in Palmerston North yesterday.
During last year's Christmas and New Year's holidays, 12 people died on the roads.
