The US has given $US416,000 to strengthen quarantine facilities in the Micronesian state of Chuuk.

The interior assistant secretary, Dough Domenech, said the money will help Federated States of Micronesia prepare for the Covid-19 pandemic.

The funding has been released under the Compact of Free Association between the two countries.

The US interior department said additional compact funding requests are being prepared.

FSM is one of only a few countries world-wide to remain free of Covid-19.
