The Papua New Guinea Electoral Commission says more than 80 percent of the update of the electoral roll is now complete.

The Post Courier newspaper reports the Electoral Commissioner, Andrew Trawen, as saying that of the 89 open electorates, 49 of the preliminary rolls are now finished and available for public comment.

Mr Trawen says the preparations are on target and to date include the registration of 2.4 million eligible voters on the preliminary roll out of an anticipated four million eligible voters.

PNG is due to go to elections in June and July.
