Papua New Guinea is working at relaxing visa regulations for Japanese citizens to allow easy access for travel and increases business opportunities in both countries.
PNG's Prime Minister Peter O'Neill last week announced at the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting in Tokyo that his government had begun work on the matter as part of strengthening the bilateral relationship.
Mr O'Neill said that Japan is one of the biggest investors in PNG and many Japanese businesspeople travel in and out of PNG frequently.
Meanwhile, Japan has agreed to assist PNG in hosting the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders' meeting in 2018.
