Niue drought fears go

17:02 pm on 14 October 2014

Two days of rain in Niue have eased worries about drought on the island.

There had been concerns for farmers' crops and worries about the threat from fires and a resident, Hima Douglas, says the downpour is most welcome.

"Well I can say it is a relief for us. We haven't had a decent dollop of rain for a couple of months now. So it started raining a couple of days ago and as you can hear, there is a heavy downpour at the moment,, which is a very very welcome relief."

That is Hima Douglas on Niue.
