The Whanganui District Council has reached an out-of-court settlement with the company that designed and built its failed wastewater treatment plant.
The council sued MWH Global for $70 million, covering the cost of building the $15m plant which was closed in 2013 and $38m for a new plant due to be built in 2018.
The parties began court-ordered mediation in November last year and have agreed to settle to end uncertainty about the proceedings and the need to fund a trial later this year.
The precise terms of the settlement are to remain confidential, but both MWH and the council say they are pleased the matter has been resolved.
