Rural retailer takes mobile store on the road

13:29 pm on 4 November 2010

The dairy industry's largest rural supplies retailer is hitting the road, with the launch of a Mobile Store in the Southland town of Winton on Monday.

RD1 general manager Nick Berry says it's the first service of its kind in New Zealand on this scale.

He says what it's set up is essentially an 11.5 metre truck fitted out as a walk-in store.

Mr Berry says the truck will cover a regular route, with customers in the Winton area to be visited on a fortnightly basis.

He says the service is in response to demand from farmers.

Nick Berry says they plan to have another Mobile Store up and running to cover Culverden and Kaikoura by the end of the year, with the possibility of the network expanding further in the South Island, and potentially into the North Island as well a few years down the track.
