Kick Out The Jams: Astro Children

08:57 am on 4 December 2015

Interviews and live sets from the New Zealand music underground. This week, we check out Dunedin act Astro Children.

Millie Lovelock and Isaac Hickey form Dunedin two-piece outfit Astro Children, who currently play a stripped back abrasive sound with a nod to shoegaze, noise and punk, “in the style of nothing in particular”.

Since releasing their debut album Proteus in 2013, Astro Children see their music as getting darker and sludgier, with songs such as 'Boys Encourage Female Rivalry' taking a more direct approach to issues that get them worked up. Recently released song 'Play It As It Lays' gives a taste of where Astro Children’s second album, due for release in 2016, is heading.
