The police have arrested three gang members and seized two firearms in Invercargill as part of nationwide operation aimed at disrupting gang activity.
The trio were caught after fleeing in their car from a police stop on Thursday evening.
The arrests include two patched members of the Mongrel Mob, aged 33 and 38, and their associate, also aged 38.
Police located the fleeing vehicle and a second stolen vehicle, and recovered two firearms, one of which was loaded, as well as 110 rounds of ammunition.
The 38-year-old gang member is facing firearms and methamphetamine charges, while the other two face firearms charges.
They have been remanded in custody and will appear in court on 1 November.
"The combination of gang members and firearms was of great concern," Acting Detective Sergeant Alun Griffiths said in a statement.
He said Operation Cobalt was committed to disrupting gang-related offending and holding those responsible to account.
