'Kiwis not taking over Aussie rugby'

Rugby Australia chief executive Raelene Castle insists her organisation is committed to developing and promoting local coaches despite suggestions three of the nation's plum posts could next year be occupied by New Zealanders.

Brad Thorn will coach Queensland for a third straight Super Rugby campaign, while media speculation suggests fellow New Zealanders Dave Rennie and Rob Penney are favoured to take over at Wallabies and Waratahs respectively.

Daryl Gibson, a former All Black, resigned after four years as the Waratahs coach to open up a vacancy while Wallabies incumbent Michael Cheika has already indicated he will leave if Australia don't win the World Cup in Japan.

Castle said there wouldn't be discussions concerning the Wallabies top job until after the World Cup final on November 2, but admitted more had to be done to foster Australian-born coaching talent.

The 27-year-old front rower had gone four years without a haircut but will sport a sleek look after having it all cut off yesterday in support of the Shave for a Cure charity.

After making his NRL debut with the Warriors in 2014 - his sole appearance that season - he went on the play 54 times for the Gold Coast Titans from 2015-2017 before returning to Mount Smart Stadium last year.

Paasi started from the bench in last Saturday's loss against Cronulla-Sutherland but has been named in the starting line-up to take on the Rabbitohs with Lachlan Burr returning to the interchange.

There's a switch in the halves with Kiwi Kodi Nikorima back alongside Blake Green and rookie Chanel Harris-Tavita on the bench; Nikorima will be playing his 99th career game. In another change to the preferred four interchange players, middle forward Ligi Sao comes in for centre Blake Ayshford.

First up win for NZ sailors

Paul Snow-Hansen and Dan Willcox won the opening race at the World Cup Series regatta in Enoshima, Japan.

The pair endured a frustrating campaign at last week's Olympic test event, finishing 15th in the men's 470 as they struggled for speed, but have made some changes to the boat this week and it worked well on the opening race of the 2019/20 World Cup Series season.

Sam Meech had a disastrous start to the Laser, recording a 23rd and a 31st to be 27th overall.

The 53-year-old Frenchman will receive the award in Monaco on Thursday during the Champions League group stage draw.

Cantona won four Premier League titles in five years with United in the 1990s and scored 64 goals for the Old Trafford club in 143 appearances.

The former Auxerre, Marseille, Nimes and Leeds United player won 45 caps with France and tried his hand at acting and beach soccer following his retirement in 1997.

Cantona supports the Common Goal initiative, which funds football charities worldwide, and contributes 1% of his annual salary to the project co-founded by United's Juan Mata.

Former England captain David Beckham won the award in 2018.
